Baby Miigwaan – Toronto Newborn Photographer

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting this little guys family when I did his mommy’s maternity pictures. I have to say, I was pretty excited to find out what the gender of the baby would be, as they planned on keeping it a total surprise!!

I also have to say how awesome it is that this little guy and his brother are not only growing up with people who will love and cherish them, but who also have a vast heritage and culture to share and teach them.

I really love the precious items that his parents brought to photograph with their little one. These are not props, but part and parcel of their lives.

So, without further ado, meet Miigwaan.

Miigwaan means feather.

An important symbol of the Native American way of life are feathers.

They can represent strength, courage, wisdom, power, freedom and much more.

The most revered bird was the Eagle. He could fly higher than all the other birds, and was deemed to be the messenger to the Creator.

The drum  is a Lakota drum. First Nations People use this drum in ceremony and in celebration.

They say, that the drum was made by First Nations people, so they would stop fighting each other.

The gorgeous blanket above is a Lakota blanket for babies. The symbols  on the blanket come from the star people.

LOVE the little moccasins!!!

Thank you, for letting me photograph your gorgeous family.

It was a pleasure and an honor.
